Taking part in nature’s bounty– fish, game, plants and berries.
Wild Foods, Permaculture, Family Life
I am a farmer by nature, a mama by trade, and an obsessive thinker in my spare time.
Our tiny homestead is in a remote Alaskan town, backed by wild mountains. We grow chickens, ducks, veggies and berries, and make good use of wild foods as well.
This site is meant as a tour of our homeplace. Welcome!
A Design in Progress
An overview of my own DIY permaculture design for our property.
But, What IS permaculture?
Permaculture is about deliberate, functional design for regenerative agriculture. It mimics the patterns and relationships of natural ecosystems, but substitutes domesticated elements chosen for abundant yield with minimum input.
All this magic is achieved through extensive observation, creative thinking and innovative design. Permaculture has become as dogmatic as any religion, but at root it is about thinking outside of the box, all of the boxes. Because every single situation is different, there can be no overriding formula. Permaculture doesn't give you the right answer, it helps you ask the right questions.
